Mark. It eventually unlocked, just as well as that day we left for the Gibb River road.
It stuck again late last year (no cargo barrier this time) when I slammed the door shut on a full load of carboard for the dump. This time I had to unload each piece one at a time through the passenger rear door until I was able to open it via the inside handle ... not happy Jan!

I have had and fixed the same problem.
My advice is don't not put WD40 or any other similar lubricant near them as it will only make more dust stick and they will get worse.
the solution i used was to remove the locking mechanism, clean in petrol to remove all dust and old grease, then a very light greasing with graphite grease.
tThis keeps eveything lubed without attracting more crap.
1 year after treatment and plenty of dusty roads later all the locks work a treat.
Hi Stu
You say graphite grease. Is it actually graphite powder in a puffer bottle???
I always used the puffer bottle on our falcoon wagons tailgate, the crc/wd40 products would make the problem worse(gravel road dust)

I have this exact same problem. I can here the solenoid activate, but does not unlock the door. Nor does the unlock button on the dash work. The door can be unlocked by using the handle on the inside, but this is a pain in the butt. This seems to be a common problem.Originally posted by TheEntertainer
Good day guys,
The centre unlock button does not unlock the back door, you can hear it go but nothing happens, will check out the driver door later today.
The big question is, do I buy a new lock and linkages for the back door. I've had it open, even took the lock right out, cleande it and lubbed it. still same problem, new lock is $230 so if I can fix it otherwise it would be great.
Thanks for all your help so far
Happy mountaneering!!

$230 for a new lock... I hope there is a easy fix for this.
Hi All
We had the same problem last month lots of dirt roads and dust took 2 hours to free the rear door with lots of help from friends we also had a cargo barrier in place I would suggest that you check that you have the dust seals mounted to the rear door striker as all the other Discos had them on ours did not they have never been there.I will try to get the part number and post it they help a lot.
Regards
Doug
