    Battery voltage/SRS problem

    Hi Guys
What voltage should a battery in good nick hold???
I checked BlackBettys and it had 12.2V.With the engine running @+ 1500RPM 13.85V,with high beam/spotties 13.5V.The "magic eye" is white meaning charge the battery.
I put the battery on charge whilst cleaning the intercooler,I just checked it the charger's charged light is on,the battery has 12.8V.The batteries "magic eye" is still white meaning charge. The charger is putting out 13.5V.
I checked an identical spare battery(AC DELCO maint free) that hasnt been charged/used for at least 12months,its "magic eye" is green(OK) and has 12.5V.I have now put this on charge with the thought of swapping them.
I have had an intermittent SRS warning light since Xmas,I have been thru RAVE,one reason for triggering is low battery level.I have suspected this was the cause as after a long trip it goes away for a week or 2.Blackbetty basically only does a 1km trip twice a day adding to the charge problem.
    Anybody got any ideas???

Hi LandyAndy, for a start, the charging voltage is just boarder line.

13.8 volts is the absolute minimum voltage level that the can be used to charge a battery.

Your right about the short driving trips. You need at least 5 minutes driving to replace the amps used to start the vehicle.

My first suggestion would be to get the battery load tested at an auto electricians. This test should be free so if they want to charge you for the test, go elsewhere.

I would also get them to test your voltage regulator and alternator. once warmed up and running at 1500 rpm, your vehicle should be turning out a minimum of 14 volts.

Cheers and let us know how you get on.

    Thanks Drivesafe
When I tested it was from cold,so i guess it may be a bit higher when warm.
We have a proper battery tester at work so I will test the battery that came out and see what it reads.
