    Series HRTC Conversion?

Anyone had the Melbourne FWD's HRTC conversion done to their series vehicle? Because I have a Holden 186 in my 2A it seems the HRTC would be a better bet than the Overdrive ... anyone got any opinions on them either way?

    Best, Simon.

A friend has one in his 2a.
He was able to sit on 110kmp (if you can stand the noise) without a problem at reasonable revs. He used to drive 3hrs to Melbourne fairly often in it.
    Certainly stronger than the overdrive.

    G'day Wayne!

Excellent mate, do you mind saying who's doing the job for you and how much they charge? Your in Nowra so is it local or through Melbourne FWD's? I think my last price check through Melb was about $850 including a transfer case swap. By the way, what donk have you got?

    Best, Simon.

    Hi Simon.
I bought the kit from FWD in Melbourne.Cost $935 for the kit plus $200 deposit which is refunded when i send my old case back.A local workshop here in Nowra is fitting it,not sure of the cost yet.I have a 202 Holden motor fitted.Hope this helps.

    Wayne ...

Sheesh mate! ... have they upped their prices or something? - they must have. I'd be very interested to hear your findings and see what your thoughts are about performance with the HRTC in and running for a few miles. Apparently there is another mob that does it in SE QLD ... I'm shopping around at the moment so it's all grist for the mill.

    Hey Matt!

It's a High Ratio Transfer Case conversion on the transmission of Series gearboxes to allow higher gearing to bring down the revs for Holden type engines. Essentially you get about 30% improvement in speed and the conversion only effects the gearing in High Ratio but not low ... there is also some improvement in fuel consumption. The HRTC has often been the alternative to the Overdrive like the Fairey over the years and is way stronger than the Overdrive which is quite fragile and has a very low oil capacity. There are definite benefits of the HRTC over the Overdrive depending on the engine you have ... generally for Series owners with the Holden donk the HRTC is the way to go.

BTW - check my reply to your post in my Gearbox thread!

    Best, Simon.
