Thread: Brake pads - Bosch vs Borg & Beck vs vehicle off the road to wait for alternative?

    Question Brake pads - Bosch vs Borg & Beck vs vehicle off the road to wait for alternative?

    Working on the car today and noticed that my rear brake pads are done. Have been running Bendix 4WD/SUV which I found are good once warm but not so good cold - I've just recently swapped over to EBC Yellowstuff on the front following the good review on here.

    Locally the only flavours available are either Bosch or Borg & Beck - are either an ok compound for the rear pads? Anyone used either and have an opinion of their performance? I have a general mistrust of brands that have fingers in too many pies - e.g. Brembo, EBC, Brendix all specialise in only brakes, but Bosch and Borg & Beck seem to do a wide variety. Also the price is only a third to half of what I would expect to pay for good quality brake pads...
    Noting that it's about to be the Christmas/New Years holiday period the chances of quick freight for an alternative at the moment are not good.

    I have the Bendix 4wd/Suv and Heavy Duty on all the cars I have around (4wd and 2wd) and have found them to be fine in all conditions - not an issue when cold and are a great compromise between cost and use for normal everyday use - I dont do extensive towing or other "heavy" duty use but in these one off circumstances they are fine.

    I always buy my Bendix on ebay - cheaper and arrive within a day or two.

    I fitted TRW Lucas pads to mine as I felt the Bendix were a bit too hard for the traction control to work properly. Seeing the calipers are Lucas also helped me decide.
    i find the TRW Lucas pads to have a lot of bite, and I think Are near to OEM.
    Mi will now stick to them or OEM, as I like my traction control.

    Thanks for the replies. You might have missed my point that ONLY Bosch or Borg & Beck were available locally today - no TRW Lucas or Bendix in stock anywhere near me - hence why I wanted to know about those two specifically. I've decided to rather order a set of EBC Yellowstuff for the rear from the UK and just wait - I also like the idea of matching brand/compound of pad front to rear (even though they differ in calipers, rotor sizes, brake bias, etc). Cheers though.

    That definitely would be my preference but given that no one replied during the day promoting either of the two options it's not worth the risk. Brakes are a vital part, my rig is higher and heavier than standard so they get an even bigger punishment. Sadly it means it's grounded but better safe than sorry...

    They will probably arrive in the same amount of time from the uk anyway. Did you pass judgement on the yellow fronts yet?

    Apologies to all, my choice of wording in my previous post there was poor. What I should have said was there there was only one response on point, from Roverlord off road spares which confirmed ruling out one of the two available to me now options, the other two prior discussed pads that were also not available. Sorry for the confusion.
