Small oil leak just gets worse

I was investigating a small oil leak today and after the obligatory clean up i started the motor on the 300Tdi and observed. I could here this unusual noise and traced it to the vacuum pump. It also seemed the likely cause of the oil leak.

After removing the pump I notice a small fracture in the outer casing.

It couldn't be serviced or repaired so i drilled out the rivets and looked inside. The fracture is under the shiny section from the flash. What I found was several pieces of alloy which had been grinding away for a while inside. I collected them and the remains sit in the centre circular recess but don't obviously originate there.

The bore of the pump is scored and I'm fairly sure the whole unit can't be repaired. So off to source another tomorrow.

The Rover parts website has one for $354.55 +GST does anyone else know of another supplier who may have a better price or is that it. I'm ringing British O/R and probably MR automotive tomorrow.

    Any other ideas??

    Pete
