is the pickup filter blocked ?
Hello All,
One of my Series 3 109 Inch trayback ute has sat with no fuel going through it for the 4 months after it did its clutch. When I turned the pump on I could hear it clicking away loudly. Unlike in the past, there was no change in the sound after it had fuel running through it. I checked the fuel lines in and out and they were both dry. A finger placed over the outlet had minimal pressure. Same story with the amount of suction from the inlet.
I am just wondering whether the 98 octane fuel I had in the tank was antagonistic against the pumps seals? Or do these fuel pumps have to be stored wet to prevent seals from drying out.
I bought genuine Facet Fuel Pump FEP42SV 12Volt, 1.5-4Psi, 30.48 Cm Dry Lift, mostly for reliability. There are plenty of clones around for this cube-style pump; for less than half the genuine part price. Did I buy a dud or is something else going on here?
The pump is not drawing the fuel from the tank. I am going the way of a clone as its replacement.
Kind regards
Lionel

Hello Incisor,
It is a new filter. I used a suction bulb pump and the fuel came through to where the line would have joined onto the pump. The fuel filter is in between the tank and the fuel pump. There was no restriction in the fuel flow after pressing the bulb pump a number of times.
With the same ute a similar thing happened with the previous pump. It was a cylinder style Facet-Purolator FEP87SV GOLD-FLO Fuel Pump. Brand new pump only rarely used around the paddock before it was left to sit for about four months. When it was turned on it would not draw fuel from the tank. So I went to the cube style genuine Facet pump - the one that is now not drawing fuel from the tank.
I chose Facet pumps because I had previously used them before and they were reliable. Okay that was in another vehicle and a decade or so ago.
Kind regards
Lionel

Facet pumps are never very good at suction and should always be mounted as low as possible, preferably below the fuel level. They're fairly waterproof and can withstand being down under the vehicle. When new they come with some light oil inside them to start pumping, so a squirt of something slippery up the intake might get it going again.
Hello Bee Utey,
Thanks for replying and for the tip about the oil. I would not want to go much lower to where the pump is located now.
It is the same location that the Australian Army located the cylinder-based electric fuel pump. I put positioned the riv-nuts to match the army's location when I originally had a cylinder pump. Luckily the same spacing worked for the Facet cube pump.
The first photograph shows the location of the Facet Cube pump. The second photograph is my Series 3 FFR. I have a couple of ex-Army Series 3 Land Rovers and that is the location they selected for ease of access.
I am not sure whether the Facet Cube pump prefers having the inlet and outlet horizontal or vertical? Currently, the inlet is at the bottom and the outlet is at the top of the pump.
Kind Regards
Lionel
I have used those pumps before and found them to be damn near bullet proof, Give it a good squirt of wd40 down both ends of the tubes and try it again![]()

I've only mounted these pumps horizontally, seemed to be the most logical. You could definitely mount the pump lower, if any risk of damage exists just fab a protective guard for it. Rubber mounts are good too, prevents waking up half the neighbourhood when they start up. Example:
