I'm pretty sure all D2's are twin pot with slides on the front and single with slides on the rear.
the responses to the long travel brake pedal in my D2 post got me thinking about all the adds i saw for D2's that advertised
4 piston calipers.
mine is a twin with slides,
was it an option?
was it Car salesman dumness?
does anyone have them? (as standard--)
anyone who has driven a car with 4 (or more!) brake pistons will understand my enquery, enquirey, er- interest ![]()

That's what I have on mine...
Can't see a 4 spot option on the Rave disk or EPC
4 spot sounds like a car salesman's myth....

AFAIK, D2's, P38's, and later use slider calipers all round. Defender's are still a four piston front, twin opposed rear caliper. As you've surmised, sliders are unaffected by endfloat/play in the bearings, unlike an opposed piston design. Theoretically, an opposed piston design is superior in clamping and it's ability to tolerate dust, mud and crap in general, yet an awful lot of 4x's have been using sliders for the last thirty years, and I've never really heard of them seizing up from garbage getting in the works.
Anyway, sounds like D2=slider calipers. Most car salesman=don't let the facts get in the way of a sale![]()
