Question Td5 remap tuning - what's the difference between a .MAP and .TUN file?

In regards to remapping the Td5 ECU, what is the difference between files in the .MAP and .TUN format? Why do both exist? Why would one be used over the other?

AFAIK a .MAP is changing things like fueling amounts, timing etc, but a .TUN also has sensor calibration changes like MAF and MAP ranges.

AFAIK , one is a general file .MAP that can be used by anyone who can download it, while a .TUN file can only be used by the VIN specified.
Developers protect their market by producing their remaps as .TUN files which cannot be emailed to someone else to use.

Simply put, the.tun is a protected file, can only be used on the nanocom and car it was written for.

Its also encrypted so it can't be read/altered by anyone

    Cheers james
