    Wiper motor access

    Hi,

I'm replacing the wiper wheel boxes and cable in my '95 TDI and it has air con. Do I need to drop the complete air conditioning unit out just to get the small under dash panel covering the wiper motor off? I started removing a few bolts and screws around the passenger's side kick panel and it starting to look like a whole lot of a pain.

    Thanks
    Rick

    Thanks sierrafery,

My Defender has the Australian aircon that I believe the importers added. The aircon assembly covers the bottom dash area. I can get at the top #6 screw and the bottom left #6 screw in the diagram there is no way to get at the bottom right screw. I was hoping someone had a trick or an easy go-around since I can't be the first with aircon needing to get at the wiper motor.

    Cheers

    Wiper motor access

I just did wiper motor and dropped the evaporator or whatever it is called down by undoing the small bolts on each side

Then lined the sliding nuts that slide inside the plastic housing and stuck them in place using Silastic so when lifted back up the bolts were easy to fit again

Make sure you don't pinch the washer tube when refitting the motor Wiper motor access

    Thanks incisor,

I've attached a couple pics of the bit that need to come out. It looks to me that the whole aircon vent system has to come away.

The vent tube moves out of the way far enough for the corner piece to come out once you drop the very bottom support plate and the aircon evaporator is dropped down either by letting the side bolts go or the two bolts that hold the bracket through the firewall
