LT95 with Disco handbrake lever/cable

My county has the smaller rangie/stage1 style brake drum, operated by a D1 lever and cable. Not the most efficient handbrake on the planet so since Ive got the guts out of the transfer case I thought I'd take the opportunity to fit the normal 110/Perentie output house and drum that I've got sitting here on spare boxes.

Now I've heard that there are 2 styles of brake actuation for the larger drums. The ones I've got have a rod that pulls forward to actuate the brake, but apparently there is another Perentie type (which I haven't seen) which sounds more like the D1 LT230 setup where the handbrake cable goes into the backing plate of the brake.

Currently my handbrake cable goes to a bracket on the back face of the transfer case, and then hooks onto the drum lever. Pulling on the brake lever pulls the drum lever to the left. I'm looking at either relocating the cable so it pulls forward, or finding a large drum actuator which pulls to the left like the LT230.

Sooo.....
Has anyone already been down this track?
Do the Perentie type that go into the backing plate actually use the same parts as the LT230 brake?

Steve, the later type one as you say goes directly onto the shoes and is the same as a D1 or Tdi defender LT230 one. I converted my County Dualcab to this style years ago. Only thing I had to modify was the bracket that the handbrake lever is mounted on. The cable hole is different and I had to cut a larger hole in it for the cable to poke through. If you have a look at both cables you will see what I mean.

I'll drag one of my old LT230's out and check it out. Hopefully the shoes are better than both of the LT95 pairs I have too. Both are pretty oil contaminated.

If no joy I'll pull one off the boss's D2.

Nice easy conversion.
Removed the handbrake complete with lever, cable, backing plate and drum etc from an auto D1 (LT230), and fitted up no problem to the County.
I already had the mounting holes etc on the top of the seatbox from where I had the old Disco lever mounted.

I noticed that the D1 LT230 doesn't have the little metal oil scupper underneath the rear output shaft like the LT95 has. The scupper was meant to drain any leaking oil down the external front face of the brake backing drum rather than letting it drip into the brake drum.
Maybe the LT230 is less prone to leaking from the rear output seal than the LT95
I didn't refit the scupper for now as I wasn't sure whether it would interfere with the brake lever operation.
