They should come with (as pictured) L-R Upper blocks, lower blocks, Bags. The blocks should protect the springs.

Hi All,
I'm in the process of fitting these to my old Rangie. It looks like the lower spring retaining bolts and sharp piece of metal that clamps the spring in place will certainly stake them. Are you supposed to remove or cover the spring retainers ?

They have only come with the top mounts. I might need to put something under them to protect the bags.

Hi my Firestone’s for my D2 also did not come with any protection at the bottom. I was lucky enough to have some rubber blocks from a few wrecks that I had kept over the years,these were from polyairs not Firestone’s, but I did use them on the disco as I also had the same concerns as you. My Rangie has polyairs and had the 2 blocks one above and one below.
I would get some 3 or 4 mm rubber and cut to size and then selastic it to the bottom spring mount covering the bolt heads.

What would life be without a Rangie?
Yeah, I've just done a similar thing. Put rubber across the bottom. I'm assuming the bags must be really thick and strong at the ends. As I'm also sure all land rovers will have the same issue (so if they didnt' want every set coming back as a warranty return they would include a lower insert).
We'll see how they go, I just chucked 30psi into them ... and might drop the caravan onto the back to make sure they are fully seated top and bottom. It seems rock hard with 30psi in them!

I'm pretty sure it says to replace the fitted ones if sharp ends with appropriate bolts, it was in the supplied instructions with mine.
Interesting, the instructions on these ones mentioned nothing. With 30psi in them .... gee's the damn thing rides like a japanese 4wd![]()
I dropped my brothers caravan on (250kg tongue weight). and it only dropped 2.5cm. Without the bags it would probably would be close to its bumpstops
I've backed them off to 5psi for now. though I notice it does lift the back of the car quite a bit if I put a few more psi in. I'm betting the old springs are sagged, and the bags lift it back to standard height (ie: the height of the bag).
next weekend I'll hook the caravan up and put on the distribution bars.... then fill the bags until its level (I'm not interested in levelling without the distribution hitch, as the bars apply some of the weight back onto the front tires that doe all the steering and most of the braking).

I had polyairs in my D 1 used to run them at about 5-7 psi. And made sure each bag was independently inflated so could have slightly different psi in each to counter loads. 30psi is a lot![]()
Be aware that they aren't an air spring, more like a device to increase the spring rate. IIRC they're working by getting between the coils rather than pushing on the top and bottom like an air spring.
Been a while since i played around with pressures when I fitted them to the county, but from memory they tended to settle at their happy height after a bit of a drive - not necessarily the same height they were when first setting off.
These days I just put 25psi in them when fully loaded or towing the van, and about 4psi when not.
