you have checked oil levels?
Just started hearing a new grinding noise. I can hear it in third or fourth if I take my foot of accelerator and then put it back on again, just at that point when engine comes under load there's very short grinding/crunching noise, followed by a high whine that continues as long as I'm giving it the stick.
Help.
Thanks
Simon

Changed the oil day before the noise started and checked twice to be sure I put the right amount in (6.5l).

Gearbox.

So
The noise is in 3rd, 4th, and 5th, it comes on if I take my foot off the accelerator for a moment then re-engage, followed by a high whine. The whine is there in the three gears at higher revs.
I get it in high and low range, so pretty sure it's the gearbox.
So, clever people which bits need to be fixed? Bearings, etc. I mean.
Cheers

At a guess sounds like too much clearance (float) on the individual gears or the "pilot bearing" under 3/4th syncro hub is on it's way out. Under load the shaft moves mainshaft forward placing load on that bearing so makes whine. Be a bit much for all three actual gears to have float problems at the same time.
If I may, my stage one had similer noise in 2,3 4, on clutch use.Tried the oil change, light vs heavy (more damage later). Fixed the problem buy replacing the clutch thrust bearing and sleeve, also cleaned the crud of the main shaft end.
I know they are years apart but your noise discription is dejavuu!
