Thread: 300 Tdi garrett VNT turbo is importing the best option.

Chasing a turbo for my 1998 130 cab chassis , as it could do with a bit better take off assistance and help when towing. I have researched and could only find 1 aust dealer with a price for a VNT around $2600 plus postage. Ali sport with delivery, works out about $ 1900 including delivery . but I'm worried how much import tax I will pay as its over they $1000 dollars threshold. Anyone no of any better options available in Aust. ???? baz

There is no $1,000.00 threshold. That was scrapped sometime ago so now all imports should be subject to import duties and GST.
For planning purchases budget on 15% to cover these noting that it applies to the freight costs too. The import duty is applied first, then the GST after (so you end up paying GST on the import duty charged too).
A lot of the time now I find when purchasing from the UK, all this is now covered in the freight costs (the freight costs have gone up significantly), not seperate as it often used to be requiring either the freight company or third party broker.
