I haven’t seen an engineered GVM upgrade done one a defender.
Maxi-drive portals would be nice, it would be a good project to borrow a set and reverse engineer them.
Doing some preliminary investigation on GVM upgrades. etc for my 2010 Defender 130.
Has anyone replaced original front and rear axles with either Unimog or Volvo C303 or similar with locking diffs and portals.
Anyone done GVM upgrade on the 130 to 4500Kg
Thanks.

I think that a GVM upgrade depends very much on the state the car is registered in. My 110 has a GVM upgrade to 3.5t, but this was done by one of the previous owners. I doubt very much that the Defender chassis and diffs are good for 4.5t GVM. It is possible on 100 Series Cruisers, but it comes with annual crack inspection conditions.
My 130 is already rated at 3500kg from new. I recently did a test drive of both the Iveco Daily 4x4(GVM 4495kg) and MB G300 Cab chassis(GVM 4490kg) and inspected the chassis dimensions on both to compare with Defender 130 I have.
As far as chassis dimensions go the Defender compares favourably with both and larger than the MB G300.
On the issue of axle strength I can't say.
