Range Rover Sport tyre question from a newbie

    Hi all,
I have recently purchased a 2013 L320 RR Sport and am absolutely loving it, although my main question today is about tyres. The vehicle came with the factory option 20" rims and 275/40 tyres, however I have a set of factory 19" rims that I intend to fit to access slightly more suitable tyres for my purposes. The vehicle will be occasionally used on dirt roads and forestry trails, but nothing too seriously 'off road'. I know the standard 19" size is a 255/50, but I was hoping to fit a 255/55, which would give me a bit more sidewall height and access to some AT rated tyres. This is an increase in overall tyre diameter of approximately 3.4%, however I've been told by a well respected tyre shop that I trust that even this small increase might affect the vehicle's ECU systems, and in extreme cases, even send the motor into limp home mode. Does anyone have any experience, or considered views on this? The vehicle will be heading into some fairly remote areas, and I'm happy to stay with a more road orientated 255/50 pattern if it means avoiding potential issues with the ABS, ESC etc. down the track. Cheers,
    Nigel

255/55R19 will fit and will not affect any electronics providing that you don't mix them with 255/50R19 or your 275/40R20, which if you did would risk causing steering angle faults and stability control to activate when it shouldn't. 265/50R20 is slightly larger than 255/55R19 and is available in a few brands, with one stating LT construction. One brand in LT 255/55R19 is quite popular.

I have run up a thousands of Km's on 20" Cooper LTZ's. 275/45/20 on the L320 and 285/50/20 on the L322 and L405. Typically do 50% highway, 40% unsealed and 10% off road but no towing and they seem to handle that fine.

Thanks for the feedback guys-maybe a small increase in OD isn't going to be an issue. Thinking of Pirelli Scorpion AT plus, although the Cooper LTZ is also in the frame. Cheers!
