ECU plug question/and is anyone running 90 series Koni Raids
Hi again lads
Probably what is a really dumb question re the TD5 ECU. If you remove the wiring loom connectors and look at the two sockets on the ECU there is a white plastic perforated cover that sits inside the socket - which way around is this plastic cover meant to go - with the flat side visible or the side with the tangs visible?
Also does anyone run Koni Raid 90 series shocks - am considering fitting them to the beast instead of current Bilsteins?

Dazza, do you know how much they are ??
I was informed of their availability and their approximate wholesale price when announced, but no one I offered them to were interested. At that stage none were in the country, and still may be an order only proposition. Retail then was going to be $400+ each

Hey Rick - I think the guys must have buggered up the ball park prices then - he quoted me around $500 per pair - will have to call him back and check.
I am after a heavy duty shock that rides better and has some damping adjustment - finding the Bilstiens rock hard, would these shocks fit the bill if price were not a consideration?? Daz

Daz, sounds like you've been quoted for standard Koni 'Heavy Track' dampers. These part numbers should start with 8240 xxxx. eg. fronts for a Defender are 8240-1181SPX. Rear for 99 on are 8240-1182SPX, and pre 99 are 8240-1190SPX. These are a low pressure gas twin tube, (33mm piston) much like an OME Nitrocharger, except that the rebound is adjustable (after removing the shock from the truck, or at least collapsing it fully)
The 'Raid' shock starts with 90 xxxx. eg. the front for a 110/130 is 90-5374, and there are two versions for the rear, 90-5375 (standard height rear springs) and 90-5401 (raised 55mm)
The Raid damper is an off road race damper, it was designed for Dakar type cross country racing. It is 70mm in diameter, uses a 42mm piston, has adjustable rebound and an internal hydraulic rebound 'brake' to stop the thing ripping apart when fully extended. Koni basically raided the truck shock parts bin and valved one for four wheel drives. These would be really good if you fully loaded the beast up and drove quickly all day down badly corrugated roads.
Never used a Raid, but have used countless sets of twin tube and mono-tube Koni's over the years and they tend to ride better than an equivalent off the shelf Bilstein. If you don't like the damping, they are also a darn sight cheaper to have re-valved than a Bilstein, although the 8240's cost a bit to have re-gassed. IIRC, around the $70 mark each.
