A mate of mine who runs a lot of taxis says that LPG is a lot of trouble, you get less mileage out of the huge tank and maybe it wont be that much cheaper for long!

BUT, you can't just bolt any old engine into the DII> It's hooked up to the electronic tranny, and all the widgets. I would be happy to be rid of the electronics but there's no way with a 2.8 diesel I'm going to morph it into the lr, with a gear box and ancillaries for under 15k. Call me crazy....

How would you find out if a TD5 transmission is the same as for the V8, I'm running the Auto. OR,

has anybody been running a post 2000 v8 LR on LPG and what's it like. I hear nothing but problems.

This is an issue we are going to deal with in a big way.

Australia could end up like Cuba, lots of old, beaten up 4x4's with motorcycle engines in them.

    hmmmm ops:
I stand corrected on the 4.6 vs 2.8 power ops:
(thats what I get for repeating what i'm told without checking first)
did you notice the max torque RPMs 8)

I'll let you know how the electronic auto handles the non electronic engine shortly (as soon as my mechanic gets into my job :? ) I'm putting a 2.8 into the wifes P38
    Jase
PS I know the crazy poms are turning up 2.8s to this (200hp+) sort of power figure 8O also gives them over 400 nm 8O
I'm waiting to see how long it lasts (fingers crossed)

FWIW, I have a 2000 dII on dual fuel. My reaserach showed that early kits has probs, but the new ones like mine (18mths in now), work like a top. I get about 20% less fuel economy when working the engine, but only 10% when putting around. Overall there would be a 10% power drop. My tank is only 50 odd usable litres but its gets me by. at $2.500 appx to set up I expect to break even around 35000km. Very happy overall.

Are you in Brisbane, Who did your conversion and did you go scuba tanks or one big petrol tank replacement?

    What about a chip upgrade.

At $1.40/l you can now justify the cost over a much shorter period!

I saw a TD5 on ebay yesterday for $6000. I would estimate there's another 5 or 6 grand to install. I'm off that. At least with an additional gas and fuel tank you get extended range and cheap gas!
