spudvoy I think my central locking is aftermarket. See if you have a small box under your centre console. Thats where my transponder is.
I know mine doesn't care if I use the key or the remote. Don't know about the engine immobiliser though.

I don't think it has a factory alarm at all. If it does, the previous owner didn't tell me anything about it. Do you think a 2002 130 would have one fitted originally?
I posted this info on another thread - but I think it is relevant here.
2002 onwards Defenders have all the guts for the alarm, remote keyless entry and immobiliser built in. Due to import duty or tax reasons (or some-such crap) they weren't sold with the keytag (maybe later models were). All you should have to do is go to your nearest LR service centre and ask them to code you a keytag (cost me about $170). This then operates the doors, alarm and immobiliser as per any other modern vehicle.
I have had an 02 & 03 Defender both retro-fitted with the remote keytag. Each one took a couple of goes before the programming "stuck" and you can select options like whether you want the lights to flash, or the horn to chirp etc. I don't see why a 2002 130 wouldn't also be able to have this done - just ask the stealer. Perhaps if you send the wife in to get it done they will only charge for the tag and no labour (not that it takes long to do anyway).
