Thread: Rear door seals D2

Hi Andy
The Disco2 door seals arent the best.
The common fix is to use "fly wire cord" inserted up inside the seals.This makes the seal thicker,stops water leaking in the rear door and cuts wind noise on side doors.
Its possible the vehicle has had this done and the seal is now rubbing much harder on the door frame.Squeeze the seal and see if it feels like there is something inside.
It could also indicate the vehicle has done alot of gravel road driving and the door is shaking against the frame.Look under the vehicle,any leading edges under there will show plenty of "sandblasting" from gravel if this is so.

the door should seal using the rubber ---

if there is metal to metal something is wrong,,,, :?

Mine is back to bare metal and never gets time to corrode. It is caused by coarse dust getting in between the rubber seal and the body, acting like sand paper as the door vibrates up and down. I believe it is a very good indication that the car has spent many many kms traversing corrugations (as mine has)

The other areas are the leading edges of the rear wheel flares, bare metal and never corrode. The radiator suppot panel has bare metal where ever the plastic trim panels contact it. and all the leading edges underneath are shiny bare metal. The real ****er will be when I post back to Adelaide next year and I don't get to sandblast these areas on a daily basis. shiney metal will soon be rusty mess 8O

If you are looking at buying it, know that it has probably done a lot of kms on dirt roads. Mine did not display this until it had been up here on the Cape for about 40,000kms. and it didn't get back to bare metal until it had done about 90,000km's. The other 2 series II's that have lived here and the 3 series I's have displayed the same thing and they live in the town so only get on the dirt on the weekends.
