    would be a lot easier if I can.

    Cover = nose?
    you have to pull the axles, remove the driveshaft then it will come off,easily, but it is heavy.
    regards Philip A
    I have drilled a couple of holes in the cup of a garage jack, and you can use the holes under the nose to attach it to the jack cup via bolts.

    Definitely a rover type just didn’t look close enough, leaking between the nose and housing.
    only a weep but knocked back on the roadworthy.

    There is a fair to middling chance that a few of the m8 (I think do check) studs have broken.
    Will find out pretty quickly after putting a spanner on them!

    They are a nothing special stud and nut with washer combo

    Nip the nuts up, clean the housing well(brake cleaner is good), give it a small bead of RTV/silicon at the gap.
    Only thing I wouldn't do tho, is clean the housing with a spray can of cleaning whatever. Spray a cloth/rag and apply to the housing.
    If oil can weep out of the small gap, then a spray of much thinner cleaning whatever will definitely get in(not good).

    No need to remove anything really.
    At least should help to get through the roadworthy. If it doesn't hold long term .. do the remove/refit rigmarole only if you have too.
