    TD5 Warning Lights

I had an intermittent fault with my 99 TD5 discovery auto, It would start ok & idle but warning lights both for sport/man mode & engine management were flashing. Selecting any gear and pushing accelerator had no effect, just idled. Turning the ignition off & on sometimes fixed the problem temporally, This fault could occur on start up or whilst driving. I had a LR mechanic reset fault codes but no joy, he suggested that the auto transmition switch was the possible cause, I replaced this myself at a cost of $390 but 2 days later the fault re occured.
Took it to Melbourne City Land rover & they had it for two days, the problem turned out to be a faulty injector wiring harness ( oil leaking into the wiring) They did lend me a car to get home & back.

Unfortunately it's common fault with the early D2s, unusual that a LandRover dealer took so long to find it, seeing that it is a known fault.

    TD% Warning lights

I had the exact same initial problem.I had British Off Road look at the prob and they did exactly what happen with yiou to begin with.As I tow a heavy horse float, and when we moved the problem became greater.Eventuall, she would go anywhere at all.Took it back on a low loader to BOR and the looked even further. This time it was found , that the PLASTC gear selector connected to the Transmission was cracked and causing a negative read , thus the M and S lights flashed and halted any forward movement with the Disco.

I would suggest you get this checked, as it is vunerable, and I nearly got caught in a awkward spot. the component cost $385.00 and $60.00 labour.Crazy!!!dkemp7@bigpond.com

There was a recall on my 2001 D2 for this very problem. I don't know how far back this recall went. It may also be covered back to the first TD5 models. Have a look in common topics. We have had significant discussion on this.

Iam pleased that I havent been alone with this problem, although not wishing any problems on others. My S2 TD5 is a late 99 and has hardly been used off road which annoys me that this component failedIf there was a recall, I never received notice.Would be Interested in recall number/code.My wife uses it mostly, but having 4 kids and 3 horses, it the best for towing and is extremly versatile and economical.

Could any one advise me to small oil leak which is dropping down near the removable cross member under the transmission.Although having owned landiws and Rangies for over 30 years, I hate oil leaks.Would it be come from the centrifigul oil filter?.There is no oil I can see elsewhere , as the engine bay and under is like showroom condition.

    Cheers

This is the site for the recalls is http://www.recalls.gov.au/

The land rover specific recals from January 1 1999 to today are at http://www.recalls.gov.au/search_rec...Submit2=Submit

    Here is another site http://dynamic.dotars.gov.au/recalls/Search_results.asp

It is interseting to search through this site and see how many other makes and models have problems. The Reseach & Development dept of most manufacturers seem to rely on the public to make issues show up .

    Hope this helps.
