    Discovery ECU upgrades

    Hey all,

Thinking of chipping my Series 2 Disco and wondering what my options are with prices and such.

    Cheers

    GEMS or Motronic?
If GEMS some improvement with Unichip maybe 5-8%. Contact Graeme Cooper.
If Motronic then no improvement AFAIK. Motronic came with Thor.
Both have Direct ignition with multiple coils and mapped advance.

All chips give better results with older Bosch LE Jetronic, 14CUX in Rover as they alter the advance curve to be less conservative.

Hi Capt, i have the Bruce Davis chip in my D2, as do most of us, at around $850 it's the cheapest and has the most gain giving around a 20% increase from 102Kw and 300Nm to 130Kw and 380Nm.

    His phone is

He's in Anangrove in Amaroo Pk in the old ARDC club room.

    Sorry I assumed V8
Of course you can turn up the wick on a diesel, but to mix a metaphore, be careful that you do not burn the candle at both ends.
The outcome could burn the wallet.

    Hi CaptJimmy,

I have my ECU chipped & has increased power & torque figues by 30% & larger intercooler added.
This is what it should of come out from the factory like..my thoughts anyway!!
I did all the work myself so i saved some money..

Retail prices on the parts alone were approx ECU $850 & Intercooler $1100 & i also fitted some silicon hoses as mine needed replacement anyway.

I got mine from a Company called Triumph-Rover spares in Adelaide.
If interested ask for Phil & mention my name & he will save a little money for u.

I have the Bruce Davis ECU fitted to my manual D2 and it is a great mod - really good if you have an auto. I had a few issues with it in the beginning but when it works......what a difference. You will notice it holds gears much better, tows great and if your cruise control is jerky when you cancel it, this is improved 100 fold. There are some other units - tunit etc which are plug and play type units but from all reports the BD seems to be the go for more "bang for your buck".....so to speak BD is also working with an exhaust crowd on the Gold Coast in developing a system that will bring the EGT down by quite a bit.........add and intercooler into the mix and you have yourself a dragster!!!

I have the bruce davis chip. It was done before I bought it. I don't know the extent of mods but I was told they used the rig as a test bed for some of their mods.

Well the bruce davis chip seems to win the majority votes. Am i looking at an increse in my fuel consumption or is it pretty much standard. At the moment in getting between 10-12L/100kms depending on my driving.

You might notice a slight increase in consumption but it shouldn't be too bad. You will notice a bit more smoke as well.
