Hello All,
I was just wondering what kms others are geting out of a standard 89.5lt tank. I've been reading threads were people are stating they're getting 650-700km out of a tank. Are these figures from long range tanks because I'm only getting 480km out of my 96 Disco petrol? I haven't had the vehicle long and am still learning about all its pros and cons. These km were also done without driving hard at all. I was thinking of trying the cleanpower products written about in a tested stuff thread, any advice on how to get a bit more out of old girl?
Cheers,
Rhino

What is your fuel economy? have you measured it? Is the 480 Km to the red light or until the car stops?
The question you have asked is unanswerable .
The fuel economy of a 96 Disco is about 20 L/100Km around town and 15 on the highway .
A well tuned one wil go about 550Km until the red light on a flat road at about 100-110 Kmh.
It would be pretty unlikely to go 700KM.

Thanks for the info Philip. On the last few tanks its worked out to 21L/100km driving around town. The 480km is to the red light, so maybe its not to unusual. I put new plugs, leads, oil and filters in yesterday so hopefully now it's just been tuned I'll get a bit more out of it.

Rhino, out here (Alice Springs) drinking the petrol isn't the problem, sniffing it is. Every few weeks or so we get damage done to used cars as the sniffers break in to the fuel fillers.

650-700 would be for Diesel Discos only.
I reckon you're lucky to get 480 from a tank in a petrol!

Hi fellow disco owners to my knowledge the V8I 3.9 has a fuel tank capacity of 99lts standard according to specs. Also the low fuel comes on at 10lts remaining but this can very in my case low fuel activates at 30 lts reamaining because gauge reads slightly low. I find 480km is the safe way to go leaving about 10 lts in reserve its a mater of knowing your own vehicle these figures worked out on bush excursions on tracks 70%in lowrange and 30% Hwy mode.Have never run to m/t but on calculation 500km's is achievable but carry a jerrycan or own a good pair of walking shoes.

I got 550km out of a tank on my way to Victoria from western Sydney in my 96 Disco 4.9. Light was on for last 40 km of that. Think I would of been running on fumes by the time I pulled into 1st servo at Albury. Was sitting on between 110 and 120 kmh most of the way. Was a bit worried when fuel light 1st came on and i had just passed the last lot of Fuel stops, (2 oclock in the Morning), but decided to go for it.
Constanly get atleast 450km out of tank when everday driving. Dont push it anymore though as I was caught out.
Luckily the car was at home at the time.
