Hi gang i need an answer to this question .
My99 Discovery has a 0.5mm runout in the front left drive hub. This is making the front wheel run concentricly but its not evident as you drive except for a hearinga slight bearing noise coming from the side which goes away when you slightly tap the brakes .
Is this a worry and how much are front hubs to replace.
Cheers Pete

do you know exactly where the wobble is coming from.....?
have you done any work recently to the front end.....such as had the disc off..?
it may just be a warped disc if you feel it whilst braking.....

its at a repair shop at the moment ..
The disk isnt warped the noise is like when you have a slightly worn bearing in a front wheel drive thats needs retensioning .a example of the sound would also be like when you hear a diff bearing going on and off load .
The sound goes away when you lightly touch the brakes which religns the vertical axis of the wheel .
they checked the bearings and said they were fine then they noticed the front wheel cavitating.

what do you mean by cavitating.....?
did they adjust the bearings......did you check to make sure there is no freeplay in the bearing...?

From memory, Disco 2 bearings are a sealed unit, non adjustable and to replace you have to replace the entire hub assembly.

The bearings are tightened correctly the wobble isnt a loose wobble its more of a bent rim rotation when you look at the wheel you can just see the wheel moving off center to the vertical axis.
The left side must of had a fender bender before we brought it.

are you sure its not the wheel....?
its very hard to buckle a hub....but very easy to buckle a wheel.....
or it might just be the tyre.....even brand new tyres dont run true when you spin them up.....
try your spare tyre or one of your back ones to see if it makes a difference.....
also check that where it mounts against the hub is nice and clean.....
if you have any dirt or mud the tyre wont sit flush on the hub.....

Thanks for the info gang
The prognosis was the run out was within rover specs and the bearings were fine.
The tyres on the disco are apperantly slightly narrower than the mag rims i think there 215 and they are supposed to be 225 or 235.
Now for the plug ..
The people i took the car to were Robson 4wd in bentley they cleaned, repacked the, tested the car found the run out prob, then they took it to Rovertec to make sure it was ok, they detailed the car and
all this cost me nothing because they couldnt find the problem sound.
I offered to pay as they put 2 days worth of work plus the consult with Rovertec but they didnt want a bar of it.
So thats gotta be worth giving them a free plug.
Cheers Pete
