    Swivel Ball - Condition

    Hi guys

Is it normal to have marks like these on the Swivel Ball?

Wheel is turned on hard lock so the lines would be travelling straight ahead perhaps.

    Cheers

Those lines will match up with the lips on the seal when the wheels are going dead ahead.

My POS has always had them.

    That's right!

The swivels are either running one shot grease inside or they've run out of oil.

Ok thanks for noticing the tie rod end.

Interestingly I changed the diff oil the other day and got 2 litres out. Put back in 1.7 litres of new oil.

Today I removed the filler plug on the swivel , I only have The filler plug. Put in zip tie and got about an inch of oil/ grease maybe. I added half a packet of one shot grease to top up.

Maybe the axle seal has gone and the oils are mixing. Not sure what I will damage if I leave it like this ?

Who filled the diff last time?

If you fill to the bottom of the hole on the front of the diff you’ll get 2 litres in, which is too much AFAIK.

1.7 is correct for mine. The old diffs used to have the same fill as yours and also had a level hole on the top of the snout round the back. 1.7 L came to the bottom of that hole.

Can’t comment on the swivel level. Mine has drains and levels and runs mostly oil when I can keep it in. 👌

This time I filled it and measured exactly 1.7 litre going in after 2 litres of dark grey oil came out.

Last time it was filled by Landrover in 2013. But Rick on this forum thinks the extra will be one shot grease forcing past the seal into the diff. Which is why I added some grease to the swivel.

It seems the only way to be sure this gets fixed is to replace the axle seals on both sides and renew all oils / grease. Not sure if I need to do this though.
