    Safari Gard suspension

Gday fellow roverists.I am contemplating getting a JEK stageIII suspension kit for my defender.Does anyone have any idea as to the quality of these products. The shocks(fox racing)should be good, but any info on the rest of the products would be most helpful

Is this the kit with the 3 link front end? There were some initial problems with this system giving way. There's a technical analysis of this & other systems on the 'net by Rich Hills from memory. Search the old D-90 boards, and there's a heap of flame wars on discoweb.org. Search the archives for "collapsing lawn chair" or similar. Although I think a stronger cross-member is now supplied, I haven't heard of any structural failures in recent times.

In any event I doubt you'll get it engineered under the new rules. Springs need to be retained under the proposed guidlines, so even the rear kit is an issue. Unless you get it done real quick.

Thanks Max,what are the new guidelines by the way,and does this mean any tinkering done before they come into force would be acceptable??

The new rules are intended to be the same nationwide. The draft is somewhere on dotars.gov.au

A lot of clubs have put in submissions. The problem is that its worded as a finite list - if its not there, you can't do it. So, under the draft, even fridges, cargo barriers etc are out - the recreational 4wder wasn't considered.

Retrospectivety is also a concerm but last I heard this wasn't going to be applied retrospectively.

But talk to obe of the approved enginners first - he made not give you a certificate for what you want to do.
