G'day mates!
Does anyone of you with oily hands have an idea how to remove the ring (made of bronze or brass) that holds the needle roller bearing and seal in the stub axle? If possible without breaking it so it could be reused?
On earlier axles it was a doodle but this one defeats my attempts (so far anyway).
Before I forget, it's a 1995 Disco.
Thanks for your advice!
Cheers
Johannes

you got a picture or diagram of the bit you are referring to...?
im not sure which bearing you mean.....the hubs have tapered bearings....
there is a cone shaped outer race in the hub...and the inner race with the tapered rollers
comes out...or should i say falls out.....
the rear bearing is only prevented from falling out by the hub seal.....
while the hub is off the vehicle of course.....
DZ - I think he is referring to the needle roller bearing that supports the CV joint inside the stub axle, not the hub bearings.
Yeah I have the right tool for that......you can borrow my club hammer and cold chisel if you want.
But don't doddle with ya doodle
Thanks mates!
If I'd still live on Bribie I'd like to resort to Rob's offer! Pity I don't. Besides, wouldn't the bronze part get damaged?
I'll give it a try anyway.
And, sorry about the d****e thingy, didn't mean to offend, no offence taken!
Cheers!
