Shell fuel - new recipe ? Problems ?

Mrs Vlad put $40 of fuel (not much these days) into the Rangie at Shell the other day. There's a sign there that says something along the lines of "new fuel blend makes your dollar go further" or some such ?

    What's going on ?

Is this an ethanol blend or something else they aren't telling us about ?

Ther reason I ask is that (and I've started a seperate thread on this issue) ever since it has been having problems that may be consistent with intermittent fuel delivery problems.

Anyone heard anything re the Shell fuel ?

Seems to much of a coincidence to me.

I suppose it also could have been dirty fuel, or water in fuel if tanks at servo were low.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

I have used Shell Optimax extreme, the 100 octane stuff, my Rangie runs better on that ( a methanol or is that ethanol blend) It has not caused any problems but it was too expensive to use regularly.

I don't know, but what I do know is that I just replaced my 2nd fuel pump in the defender this year and mechanic reckons I got bad fuel (... he showed me the crud in the bottom of the fuel pump) and I know for sure I had only filled up 3-4 times max since when I replaced my first fuel pump - at Shell and at Caltex (2 servos only around my local area).... I fill up at BP only now, and very anal about keeping all the receipts, mileage, etc

Hi Vlad, I'll have a look next time I fill the wife's D3, because we only use Shell or BP.

BTW, Vlad, what grade of fuel do you use.

Hi bluetongue, as above, and both Shell and BP guaranty the quality of the fuel

    Caltex/Ampol does not.

    Cheers

we make & suplly equipment to oil companys
the stuff we make is designed for fuel contcat (obviusoly) but the newer shell (optimax, 95 & the NEW one) fuels absolutely destory all the seals, o-rings ect
Shell say it's not their fuel it must be the seals faulty Seal suppliers say seals ok its the fuel ??
same seals used to last 10+ years (now sometimes just day / weeks)
We don't have even 5% of the problems with the other refinearys
needless to say I don't put shell petrol in my wfes car unless I'm really stuck and then its just one tank,
Saying that all the company cars have shell fuel cards (I don't ) and don't have any probs but the also only get the base unleaded or diesel

I agree and drive out of my way for BP. I am also paranoid about where I fill up and have records of every fill and L/100 klms.

Well thanks for that. I thought I was the only idiot that recorded every drop of fuel that goes into my car

I generally stick to BP for fuels as I believe they are generally better quality that the opposition. I know that BP guarentees that ultimate when it leaves the pump is 98 RON. Shell only guarentees the octane when it leaves the refinery. For high octane fuel that's a bad thing.

Having said that I was caught out recently and had to put optimax in the MINI. I think I might have noticed an improvement in consumption, but I haven't run anymore through it since. It could be the power of suggestion too.

Anyway, have a look at the website on it.

    Good idea Trev...

    ... that's it decided then -> BP 4 ME

... I don't like to favor any one supplier but I can't afford another fuel pump

... all the others can go get themsleves stoofed

And on another unrelated topic... gee I wished I still lived up in QLD

    Go the maroons

    Regards,
    Scott
