    Disco 300Tdi air con diagnosis.

    Hi,

The AC in my Disco 300Tdi has stopped working. I took some time today to try and find the problem, with not much luck...

    - AC switch seems fine,
    - AC fans are working,
    - AC clutch works when hot-wired straight from battery.

When searching for the relays I found some melted wiring that I think could be related, but I'm not sure what this box is:

    Cheers!

Never mind about the black box; it seems its an aftermarket Steelmate central locking unit...

Any ideas where to look next for the air-con?

From memory (and it’s been a while)
    The circuit is pretty simple

Switch on dash - AC pressure switch - coolant temperature switch - clutch of compressor

When above all live - fans also get power.

Is there 12V at the clutch when switch depressed
First check is there pressure in the AC system
Then check the continuity of the AC pressure switch and coolant temp switch

...... look for chaffed loom and wires near the compressor - that was the cause of my aircon failing recently.
