I don't own a defender but if you look in your owners manual it will tell you where the anchor points are located then it's a matter of buying the hook with bolt and screwing the thing in. All vehicles have anchor points just a matter of locating them.

Best thing to do is have a read of these -

The short answer is if you have a 110 you get a crab bar fitted by a child restraint fitting station - in NSW you call RTA or look up their website. Cost is about $240 fitted.

If you have a 90, a 130 or a single cab, it is all a little more complicated.

I made up a bar for my 130 with the help of an auto engineer, which is safe, but can't get certificate because of clearance between back of seat and rear wall of 130.

Defenders are classed - in NSW, anyway - as commercial vehicles and as such aren't required to have anchor points. The company hired by RTA to supervise all child restraints installations is Mobility Engineering.

I got quotes up to $2500.

Most child restraint places don't have experience with Defenders, and don't know the difference between models. On the 130 the back wall is thin aluminium sheet, not strong enough to take any weight. One place suggested bracing blocks and bolts through this - like putting a jam tin lid on aluminium foil and expecting it to carry weight.

PM me if you want more info or help.

    Cheers
    Simon

    Hey boggo...

If you own a defender 110, SneakyPete up in Newcastle had one for sale for 40 bucks. http://www.aulro.com/afvb/showthread.php't=27523

You can't go wrong.... I bought mine from Bushie for 75 bucks.

    Peanut84,
I fitted a child restraint bolt to my series 3 SWB wagon, I found a spot at the very back of the vehicle on the wheel step floor right next to the tailgate, there are 2 or 3 layers of metal there, I put large (mudguard) washers on each side of the body. It has been certified for Queensland Transport. The child seat sits on the front seat and it's strap is just long enough to reach the bolt. If yours is a LWB wagon the same setup should work for you, putting the child seat in the back seat. If it is a ute then sorry I cant help.
    Cheers,

    Mick.
