Talking Fuel line to lift pump

I am about to replace to original fuel line between the filter and the lift pump on my 98tdi disco, with a simple piece of fuel line and clamps. I presume I just unscrew the fittings at both ends, remove old line, fit new (longer and more flexible) line and refit--but is there a trick to not letting too much air into the system that will mean I need to bleed it?? Also, in refitting, should any thread sealant be used-and what would be good.

    thanks

    Hi,

I don't know about the fuel line part of it, but I replaced my lift pump about 2 months ago. Don't worry about the air in the system bit - I took off all the metal injector pipes and unscrewed all the fuel lines to remove the lift pump. Then once all put back together and cleaned nicely, just go and start it. Didn't press the accelerator either. Turns over for a few seconds (maybe 5) and starts. Easy.

And has been running like normal ever since. From the research I did on this site, it is suggested to never use the lift pump to prime as the 300tdi is self priming. Certainly mine started to leak after I used it to prime when I replaced the fuel filter. I'll never touch that lever again, I reckon.

    But I'm not expert!

    Pete
