Hello All,
I am back working on my 2A Shorty today. I think I have reached the point of terminal mass in the amount of connectors there are hanging off the positive battery terminal. Is there an auto electrical equivalent of an electrical busbar type of arrangement -or junction box/rail?
Something I can fasten to the side of the engine bay with a nice earth. Then run a nice thick cable from the positive terminal to it. Then from this device I could run multiple outlets to power things like headlights and driving lights. Also to power God knows what other stuff previous owners have hooked up to the positive battery terminal.
If there is an auto-electrical component that matches this description can you please let me know what one is called? Once informed I can go out and buy it.
Otherwise, I will just have to buy a longer bolt to hold everything down with. Well it worked for previous owners!
Kind regards
Lionel

Hello Tombie,
Yes, one of those Thing-A-Me-Bobs.. I was trying to check the spelling of "dooverlacky" but failed to find it - probably one of those now extinct Australian words.
I just ran out of thread on that bolt too! Just in the nick of time! Thank you.
Kind regards
Lionel
I get nervous connecting lots of things directly to the battery due to the increased chance of a short-circuit. I've used a fuse box a bit like this - there are plenty of options on eBay or at Jaycar.

Fuse boxes so that individual circuits can be protected with fuses suitable for the various wires/loads and unless the fuse box is adjacent to the battery, fit a fuse close to the battery in the lead to the fuse box that will protect that wire, ie blow before the wire overheats if it rubs through to earth somewhere.

I was watching a Highway Patrol the other night where the copper was going on about a long self-tapping screw sticking up from the negative terminal being likely to short circuit and cause a fire.
Short circuit to what? The bonnet which is also connected to the negative supply?
I have the same one in the back of my L322 connected to my deep cycle AGM batteries under the floor to supply power to the fridge and other accessories.

Hello All,
Thank you for your contributions. Jaycar - they were the very same mob that I was about to go and visit.
I will have a good sticky-beak around the place.
It is good to have some degree insight while doing so. Unlike my normal modus operandi. For example, Holley 350 CFM 7448 carburettors on Ford Cleveland 302 motors. Steep learning curve on that one!
Kind regards
Lionel
Hello All,
I am just back from Jaycar with a 12 terminal fused device. When I left I counted 6 wires apart from the battery feed to the engine. One of the fused devices was only a six terminal job - so I had already reached its full capacity.
It is just that my timing is off by .... that much. I had already cut the two wires from the battery to power each of two relay's power terminals and made up crimp joints. With the addition of the powered fused device these thick dimension feed wires are now too short. Oh well I have more than one Land Rover that needs some nice think wire.
Kind regards
Lionel
Battery terminal too close to but not quite touching steel bonnet, enough to start a welding arc and when enough metal migrated welded the bonnet to the metal battery terminal bolt. Flat battery and bonnet that wouldn't open without a lot of force. Diesel engine...petrol engine with fumes might have meant a vehicle fire.
