Thinking about it today, why couldn't I just use a single uni joint with yoke flanges to suit the flanges off the gearbox output and TC input? I only need to deal with small flex between the gearbox and TC. Any axial movement would be taken up in the rubber engine, gearbox & TC mounts? Both gearbox output and TC input shafts are supported by bearings for both axial and lateral forces (I plan to use a Rakeway TC input shaft). This only requires <100mm length.
Thoughts?

this bloke used some sort of vibration dampener on a single UJ set up. Vibration dampeners are common on Cummins engines. With some research you could find one in the right size and weld a UJ cup onto it.
