That ole V8 rubbish idling problem.
This may be well known to most & I am not saying it will work for others, but at last I seem to have knocked this on the head for me.
After contacting different firms & one saying ,"It won't won't be the Idle Air/Stepper Valve, it'll deffo be the Hot Wire Air Flow Sensor. It always is".
And another saying they can't recall the last time they replaced one, I decided to have a look. Another, "Bring it down & we'll have a look at it for you. We won't muck around, if it's not moving, we'll replace it. $250 thank you + labour."
To cut a long story short (after all you don't wan't to know all the grief that it has caused me
)
I removed it, soaked in Carb & Throttle Body Cleaner for a few hours, blew it out, & applied light Sewing Machine Oil.
Reset the Base Idle Setting as per WM.
Put it back, & it's been fine for a couple of weeks now. Coldest mornings it has started instantaneously & you can see the revs altering as it's supposed to & it now idles magnifique.
Come to traffic lights & it drops back steadily to apx. 600 - 650rpm.
But the strange thing is, despite being told that you can hear & see the stepper moving when it's laying on the engine when the ignition is switched on, I can't for the life of me see that happening & yet it obviously is moving ok when it's placed back in the engine.

Anyway, as this problem seems to get mentioned frequently on various Forums, I thought I should make it known what worked for me.

Cap'n, you do realise that these little 'things' are subliminal hints to 'buy a diesel next time, you must buy a diesel.....'
Good to hear it's worked Des.
Motor mechanics are nearly as bad as fridgies, eh...

Stick to the V8 less problems in the long run.

if you want to see it move....take it out again.....put the plug back on....and switch the ignition on....
it should move out.....to try and close off the bypass circuit to give more fuel to start up......
if you unplug it with the ignition on....it will obviously stay out.....
then plug it in again and switch the ignition on again.....and it will move out even more......
you can get it to screw out to its maximum by doing this.....will make cleaning easier.....

Thanks Tony. I thought I'd been through all that, but I'll give it another try even if it is to satisfy my curiosity.
Knowing my luck, I'll take it out & promptly drop & wreck the bugger.
