    Crank sensor valve blocked?

Has anyone had any experience with a crank sensor valve thingy on a D2? Had my D2 plugged into Auto logic today and it registered a fault with the crank sensor or something. Thoughts are it might have a bit of mud in it so is going in to get a good clean out in the next week or so. It's basically right next to the fire wall behind all the engine and plastic cover.

Car has been driving good one day and then jumpy the next with variavble throttle response, so hopefully this is why and with a good clean out will restore the D2 to all it's comfortable driving glory!?!?!

As you can see I don't know too much about this valve.....or any other valve under the bonnet for that matter but hopefully some knowledgable chap can explain a boit more about this vavle and how it affects the running of the car.

    G'day MickG,

I don't believe you will find it is a valve.. it is and electronic sensor... this is what tells the ECU where the pistons are ( by monitoing where the crankshaft is) and so determines when the spark plugs fire. ( notice you don't have a distributor to do that..I'm assuming it's a V8)

Mine died when the car had done about 110,000 fairly simple to change... but I think they are a bit pricey,.. we put in a second hand one that is working perfect for about $90 ... I think.

The symptoms I had was that it would run fine... then suddening at low reves.. would just stop!... and be hard to start... but then if and when it did start.. ran fine.

After the change I have got slighty better fuel economy too..

    Cheers, Mark

Obviously it has bugger all to do with spark plugs on yours!!!!....

Not sure, but must still have something to do with engine timing I guess...

Sorry about the erroneous info above.... I must learn to read ...BEFORE I answer.

No probs Mark, appreciate the feedback. As you can probably tell I know very little about firstly this sensor and secondly how everything under the bonnet works. Having said that my symtoms sound similar to yours and to give a bit more info, I have had my EGR, throttle sensor, MAF sensor, changed, BD remapped ECU checked twice, etc etc etc, with all having small positive effcts. Mine runs grreat sometimes with the engine reving out nicely and smoothly and other times it feels jumpy and small. Mine often drops off to nothing when in low range trying to climb hills when I would expect wheels to start spinning before stalling.

Anyway, there are some other things it does but I'm going to get this valve looked and and hopefully cleaned out to see if this makes a difference.

Thanks again for the info, Mick
