Not certain about the '96, but '03 certainly parks the rear wiper and squirts from the front reservoir. I had a County yonks back which had a rear reservior if I recall.
Cheers
Hi All
There is a problem with my rear window wiper that has cropped up since the repair people have removed the dash and when I go back to let them know I want to be sure of something.
Does the wiper on the back have a return facility so it goes to the default postion when switched off - I'm pretty sure it does. And secondly does the rear washer have its own pump or does the front washer pump just send fluid down to the back of the car?
thanks

Easiest solution ? Get a ute.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

Yes. Even my County had it. The wiring diagram and wire colour codes on the County are identical to the Defender.
If you can't find it, I'll hunt out the diagram I drew of the rotary switch when I get home from work (midnight). Hang on! I might have given it away with the workshop manual when I sold the County.
I suspect that the switch wiring has been mucked up.
Dunno about the Defender washer bottle. In the County, the washer bottle was in the rear door and it had its own pump.

the defender has one washer bottle with two pumps.....one for the front...
and one for the rear.....
the plumbing for the rear runs in the cabin just above the passenger side doors all the way to the back.......
the jet is on the body.....if the reservior is in the door.....the jet would be on the door as well.....
and yes...it should park itself.....the wiper that is....
Thanks Zook and others. That all makes sense.
I hope it is just wiring but the passenger side doors etc are exactly where they did their panel work too.
best case scenario: minor wiring problemm at the switch easily fixed by removing that little panel that includes wiper and 12v outlet and playing around a bit
bad scenario 1: they have to pull the dash off for the third time and boy are they going to be grumpy
bad scenario 2: they forgot to put the water line back when they installed the new doors and front lhs panel which is where all the damage was
most likely scenario given my luck, repairmen and Land Rovers in general is both bad scenario 1 & 2 combined...![]()
if you are not getting any water at the back window......and you can hear the pump running when
you press the rear washers.....
chances are the hose is squished behind the "A" trim......just loosen the two screws that
hold the trim on and it might start to work......
