    Driving light bulbs

Right, been scratching my head all afternoon on this one.

Finally managed to trace and source all the relays for my driving lights and get a voltage reading. I found that whoever wired them in wasn't such a DH after all, they properly wired it to turn off with the dipped beam, cleverly wired not to operate with the ignition off and used a genuine switch!

I'm getting 12 volts no probs, but even when connected with test leads, the bulbs won't illuminate. They are those flat halogen type (trying to get pics), they appear to be intact, filaments etc, apart from a slight discolouration on the terminals. So whats stopping them from lighting? If I use a continuity tester with the bulb in series, it shows continuity? Do these need a massive discharge or summat to start?

    Thanks in Advance

    Hi Joel
Try cleaning the earth contact on the spotlites,or even run an earth wire to the battery.
Relays are fairly cheap,I would replace it,but if your getting 12V at the spottie, the problem has to be in the globe or the earth.

Do you get the 12v with the bulbs installed? a poor contact can show power on your meter but still have too much resistance to light the bulbs. And are you measuring the voltage across the actual terminals of the bulb not from the live terminal to a separate earth, because if you are, then an earth fault on the lights may be the problem - in this case you will see 12v between a separate earth and the earth side of the bulb, confirming an earth fault.
