Did you get a compression test done when you went to the mechanic for the once over?
Hi all, 1995 300tdi 110 owner here. When I first bought the vehicle not long ago I noticed that the oil was over the full line by about 1.5cm on the dipstick. After draining a tiny bit it to the correct level I decided to go to my local mechanic for its very first service in my hands just so they can check the whole vehicle over, something I did not have time for when I bought it. Got the car back, checked the dipstick and it's overfull by about 1cm. Leading me to believe that if you fill the oil up until it comes out the filler hole, it'll just naturally be over the full line on the dipstick? Or did they both put too much oil in![]()

Probably put too much oil in it, but be aware of the possibility that fuel is getting into the oil. And overfull sump in a diesel can potentially result in an engine runaway.

Drop some oil untill the dipstic reading is on full and drive for a while and check that it isn't getting any higher.
Most likely overfilled when serviced But it doesn't hurt to make sure
It is a 25 year old engine after all.

How level is the vehicle when you check the oil level? It sometimes doesn't take much slope in the right direction to raise the level on the dipstick.

Just leave it and monitor.
Thanks everyone. No compression test was done and I test on a flat driveway.. so probably not 100% flat but not noticeably sloped either. I might just take a bit out and then leave it!
