why don't the manufacturers blend a bellmouth onto the intake of turbochargers

I was looking at tubochargers on ebay and noted that all have a thick alloy lip on the intake side.

It seems to me that a nice gradient from the intake hose to the impeller could be easily machined especially if you have the turbo apart to replace the centre bit.. It can easily be done with just a Dremel type tool.

It need not be big , say 5MM taper from the front which would increase airflow potential while still being a strong mount for the hose clamp.

I blended my 14CUX throttle body in this way and well it seemed to make a slight difference.
Every little bit adds up .
    Thoughts?

Bell mouths are usually added in front of the turbo depending on application.

You could smooth the flow with a stepped hose or as you say tapering it on the sharp edge.

For general use it’s a negligible gain until the higher end.

Performance units often come with it...

    Turbo technics taper theirs
