 Which vehicle?
When you say temperature gauge, do you mean the vehicles gauge? or an aftermarket type?
If vehicle gauge, many(including myself) will say waste of time. It only shows you that the coolant already got too hot.
Maybe a good time to fit an additional temp gauge if you can.
On the topic of coolant flush.
I have a 300 tdi. it came with regular green coolant, no worries, and my plan was to replace coolant soon after I got the car.
All done, but it had a lot of rustiness once flushed out. Added straight water for a few days, water got rusty too.
No oil, just constant rustiness to the water ever time it was dumped and fresh added.
So bought a bottle of CEM's flush/protenctant/pseudo coolant.
They make all manner of claims.
Anyhow, did two flushes.
First one brought out a lot of brown filth, and created a similar sounding 'oily'(or slimy) residue in the expansion tank.
Pulled that out, cleaned up, all good. dumped flushed water out again .. even more brown than before.
Flushed block again with hose, again more brown water ejected.
Did this all over again one more time, and a lot less brown stuff in the water this time.
During flushes, no coolant used, just water and this CEM stuff.
Finally filled with straight water one more time ran for a week maybe more .. and finally clear.
Water pump started leakign from the weep hole, so good opportunity to change this out too.
Long bolts confirmed a lot of rusty sludge has built up inside the cooling system, but all standing water seen in the pump/block area was clean.
New long bolts fitted, coolant added .. I feel better after this ordeal. Can't recall the time involved, maybe 3 months(over one summer) .. but all done and dusted.
Did the CEM flush help? I think so. Could another product have helped? probably.
This is my experience. Not scientific tho.
