It is actually red black black and yellow!
    I've ordered a new relay/control box.

The winch gearbox, no sign of water, some of the grease is grey, which I think is from metal particles. All bearing move smoothly. I repacked this with grease.

The motor end plate. It does have an O ring to seal. I added a thin layer of grease to reduce corrosion and prevent water getting in.

Slightly O/T, but when i looked at the car in question I saw that the winch is mounted directly to the ARB bar. Can't do that on a D1 ARB bar because of the crush cans, you need a cradle. The D2 bar seems to have far smaller crush cans, so is it OK to mount the winch straight to the bar? I want to take the winch off the D1 and mount it, you guessed it, to the D2.

My D2 ARB bar is designed to mount a winch on But I am pretty sure that I had to pay extra so that would happen

Ha. Mine came with the car... ARB haven't been helpful, but maybe i've asked the wrong guys. I asked at their main place in Kilsyth. maybe somewhere else will help... Bohica's bar looks the same as mine.

When I ordered the bar for my D2a there were 2 types available, a standard bullbar and a winch capable bullbar.
If you bar doesnt have the slot or the cradel for the winch fitted on the bar then it isn't winch compatible because the crush cans on the winch bar are engeneered differantly to the standard bullbar due to the differant forces imparted when a winch is used with the bar.

My domin8tor winch came with a twist type isolator on the wireing supplied with the winch and if you have the same isolator on yours I wonder if yours may be corroded and not allowing enough power to the winch to make it run.
A few sprays of contact cleaner and turn the isolator on and off a few times should ensure that it is working properly

that isolator is a high resistance connection. cabling is 25mm2, narrows down to a spring and 2 brass contacts and opens up again to 25mm2 cable. better to buy a marine high amp isolator that is able to handle a continuous amp draw of the motor under normal loads. if you can be bothered, upgrading the cabling will also be a worthwhile exercise. 35mm2 is probably OK for short runs, 50mm2 is preferred for long runs. i use marine grade hydrophobic grease in the gearbox or push bike silicon grease. both are designed for wet environments.. seems to keep corrosion at bay better than the grease it's sold with. if the winch is broken down, give the contacts in the motor a quick rub with the emery paper and check the contact surfaces are clean. corrosion and crap will reduce performance of the motor. a full strip down of the winch every 2 years or so will keep it working for years.

The new control box and cables arrived yesterday. It was fitted in the afternoon. It works. No clicks, no hesitation. It just works.
