or just fit polyairs??For big trips where we're heavily loaded I'll re-fit the factory springs and carry these as spares. Best money I've spent on the car to date.![]()

I don't have a lot of space in my garage height wise as some of you might know. With the car empty I can't get it in the garage unless the tank is over 3/4 full. Only being able to drive 200k before re-filling was giving me the![]()

I'd been thinking of putting in some alternate rear springs to drop the car slightly for some time. Anyway, I bit the bullet and for a little over $100 from MR I have some standard 110 springs in the car (I fitted).
Well... now I can get the car into the garage down to about 1/4 tank, so the drop in height is only VERY slight. But the transformation to the ride... SPECTACULARI would recommend this mod to anyone. It has transformed the car. It now rides like a coil sprung classic rangie.
I think the ultimate load capacity is definately less. But for a weekend camping you'd never know. For big trips where we're heavily loaded I'll re-fit the factory springs and carry these as spares. Best money I've spent on the car to date.![]()

I'll second that adviceOriginally Posted by discowhite
It will allow you to adjust the ride height according to the load.
Best done outside the garage though![]()

Yes, but do youknow the correct way to use polyairs? So many people don't...![]()
How much are polyairs? I'd have to buy 2 of them? Sounds like a lot of complication for the limited amount I want.
The answer to that question and many more is answered here:Originally Posted by BigJon

Thanks for the link.. it was good. Correct me if I'm wrong though, polyairs help vehicles that have light springs carry heavy loads by helping the factory spring.Originally Posted by one_iota
So, in my case where I'm trying to improve unladen (or light load anyway) ride, and the factory springs are spec'd for a 900kg payload, it's unlikely that the polyairs would help me at all. If anything they would make the unladen ride worse. However, now that I've fittled lighter springs (19.2mm std wire diameter as opposed to 17.2 now) it would appear that the polairs might have a use if I wanted to use these springs for carrying load as well. That's good to know, so I could keep my light load compliance yet cope with heavier loads as required.
Anyway.. to all the later defender owners out there... if you want to transform the ride and have a hundred bucks, and an hour or so to spare there you go. Bloody thing rides like a limo!![]()
have you got a winch...?
Nope. Before hand it felt like the front was travelling pretty well over bumps, and then the rear would hit them and bounce at the back. The front and the rear didn't feel matched. Now they feel like they work together.Originally Posted by DEFENDERZOOK
