    Rover V8 - O2 Sensors

In Rover V8s without cats, how many O2 sensors are in the exhaust and where do they put them?

I am wanting to put wide band O2 sensors on an engine I have and on advice bought a kit that has only one sensor but now it has been suggested I should have one for each bank which is logical. While I appreciate OEM is a different system, I am interested to know how many the OEM system used and where they are located.

    Thanks

2 would be best, If you are going to monitor them,, they must move up and down constantly, .01 to .09
The pic is from a NA system which uses AFTER cat sensors to check on cat performance, but the placing of the front two are correct--
    installation must be vertical???

Just my 2 cents, but, the D2 O2 system is the total boss of the RV8, it cares nothing about your desired rate of acceleration,
it only cares about lamba/ fuel economy, you can ask for full power but the O2's will fight you all the way to the Open fuel table...
But if your name is BMW all you really care about is emissions and fuel economy...

What are you talking 14CUX or later?
If 14CUX I did a how to several years ago which I can PM to you.
    It replicates the OEM system.

I cannot remember now as it was at least 10 years ago.
I do remember a forum member condensed it into a smaller Pdf which I think I still have.

Pedro - thanks for that diagram - answers my specific questions - so on non cat there are two. Bugger already got one system but it cannot do a twin o2 sensor system - so more $$$ needed to get a new system.

Philip - no idea of ECU system at this stage - was going to go Megasquirt but that is a PITA, is over hyped and support is not good- will probably go a aftermarket system like an Adapttronoic as I have a local dealer and it is about the same cost as Megasquirt.

I need to get an exhaust system built and need to know where the o2 sensor bungs need to go.

    Thanks

Why not put one O2 sensor after the Y-pipe junction? Is it a temperature reason?

The 2 door I had for a while with the P76 race motor had one there in the 3" exhaust, but it wasn't connected to anything.

    cheers, DL

With only one sensor you may have one bank rich and the other lean , from for example an air leak.
Better practice to have 2 to control each bank individually.

There is no reason if the engine is running as it should and that was the advice I was initially provided with, but as Philip has indicated, if there are irregularities in either bank then this issues may be masked.

I will go the two and but at this stage I was just interested in how many and where to put the bungs when I get the exhaust done.

    Thanks
