Clunk in front drivetran - Series 3
Ok, i've got freewheeling hubs on my series 3, so many of the parts only move when in 4wd and with the hubs engages.
However, when in 4wd I ofter get a rather loud clunk occasionally which seems (and i say seems) to be coming from the front end. It's not the usual suspension clunk as I can feel it through the steering wheel a little.
It's usually when under load (does it every couple of minutes on sand, regardless of speed, turning etc), and seems to even slow progress (when climbing dunes for example).
Now I haven't got a set of drive flanges to istall to see if it is a pair of crappy free wheeling hubs. I've had hte wheel bearings out of both sides recently and the splines in the hub and on the axle look ok. I've been contemplating going back to the drive flanges, but the disadvantage of that is that on anzac day parades, I have to use high range (rather than low with hubs disengaged).
Any thoughts on what it could be?
