Bloody kiddie seat installation

Gday fellas,Im havin trouble getting the appropriate answer on the installation of anchor points in the 110.Ive spoken to mobility engineering,and the people they directed me to were no help.Has anyone in sydney had the white crab bar fitted to their vehicle,and if so where?The young bloke at mobility showed me both the bar and the posts,and said they both cost the same to install,but you can only fit one seat to a post,and 3 to a bar.Needless to say,the old man at mobility recommends you install the posts(gee I wonder why).Can anyone show me some photos of a fitted bar,cause this is givin me the irits and i'll just put the bastard in myself if I have to,and the RTA can jam all their b

I wish I had my camera with me yesterday when I was at KLR Automotive. I looked into the back of a 110 which had a bar mounted across the car behind the second row seat. I wanted to take a pix 'cos I knew that someone here was asking about it.

The bar appeared to be 50x25mm steel bar or tube, probably bar. A tube with a hole through it would be a tad weak.

If Mobility Engineering weren't much help, try Little's Child Restraints. They came here a while ago to quote one up for Sales. I don't know what the $ were or if they have more details though.

There's a guy in Melb who makes up a plate that fits above the back door on a 110 wagon for the child restraint bolts. I've been meaning to go and have a look at them this week, but whenever I've driven past he hasn't been in. I had similar child restraints retro fitted to my '88 Rangie by Ritters in Melb.

It may be cheaper getting these sent up and having them installed, instead of getting a bar.

Hi,

My son sits in a child seat in the middle of the back bench. Have shoulder straps placed over the top of the seat and down on each side of his chest to the lap belt. The lap belt goes through the loops at the two bottom ends. The shoulder strap then extends down the back of the seat and is screwed to the floor using the seatbelt attachment bolt. It gives him shoulder restraints and a lap belt in just a foam car seat. The shoulder restraint came from Target. I like having him in the middle, as it is the safest place in the event of a side impact. It also gives him good vision out the front window, and minimizes motion sickness. He has been riding in this position since he was three. He is now five.

Boggo,

Don't have it any more but this was what I had fitted to my defender up to a couple of years ago

Sold it to bluetongue couple of months ago as far as I know he was fitting it himself, it should be a simple job.

The post type I had in my perevious Rangie, they make a bloody mess of your load space.

Yep bought mine from Bushie and fitted it myself... just had to drill out the holes with a 1/2 inch drill bit to fit the larger tensile bolts.

Town and Country in Beverly Hills gave me a quote for about 300-400 bucks fitted. From memory the bloke to talk to is Brad... he had heard about a standard design for the defender... he made a few phone calls... and someone faxed him a picture just like the one that I bought from Bushie... it takes a couple of days to make it up and get it delivered... fitting should be no time at all for those guys...

Give him a call at least if it's too far out of your way... he'll be willing to email you the picture of it and let you know where up your way you could get one ...I'm sure he actually rang someone in Hornsby (... it might have been Mobility eng... I don't know)

On a side-note... it absolutely amazes me how many of us out there are fitting our kids into a defender... it's friggin great!!

... just not so great trying to figure out how to do it under 500 bucks. I got some quotes over 1K for a guy to rip out the back of the seat, reinforce the seat frame with 3 anchor points fitted then re-upholster everything.... crazy!!

We should make this a common thread including all the places where you can get it...

On a side note, just got a quote to fit 3 points in the roof of the rangie..........$580.

Apparently has to brace the roof line up the rear where the speakers are

I already have an upright post in there but I'm about to fit LPG tank in it's place. I'm no expert but I reckon I can do a better and safer mounting job with a crab bar than the dodgy job thats currently fitted. There is no bracing at all and it's just a couple of bolts through the floor going into 2" square plates and a nut. Someone has certified it with a mod plate though so I think I'll just DIY after a chat to some engineers. Cheers

guys i use a cargo barrier with the milford cut-outs for child safety seat straps
the bolts are anchored to the rear floor at apropriate angles with large washers 100mm? used as 'plating'
this may not be approved

but is strong enough at the moment and serves the purpose
