    DEFENDER rear seat headrests

I got a quote (over the phone) from Supertrim in Mitcham (Melbourne) to fit 3 x headrests to Defender rear seats.

They would need the seat for one day, and would attach inserts to the frame and supply and upholster the headrests for $400 + GST.

It sounds like a fair price for the amount of work.

I'm not in a $$$ position to get the job done immediately, but I thought I'd pass it on.

Thx for the heads up Michael2, I'm putting in a Milford C/barrier in this weekend, and was just scratching my head about what to do with the potential Mesh imprint on the back of my Daughters head in the back seat......
Would you mind putting up their phone number......
I had a quote for headrests sometime ago in the Dandenong area, I think they were asking around $550.00 for the job.......
Are these headrests fixed or adjustable height.....????
    Thx mate.....

here we go, cut & pasted from www.whitepages.com.au
I didn't get the detail on the design, but I would hope they'd be slide out ones so the seat could be folded down.

Let me know how you go with it if you have the job done.

Maybe we should get some expressions of interest from members and see what kind of price we could get for a bulk order

Let's see how many people can register interest over the weekend, and I can go in and see them Monday or Tuesday, so they can eyeball the seat. We can negotiate a price for a bulk order, as well as promoting it on line to other interested members.

Unless ciapek wants to go talk with them, as he's "ready" to have the job done. I've got Mon & Tue off and it's not far from home, so I don't mind doing the leg work, let me know.

Take a shot at it Michael, I had some $$$ work come in over the weekend so I'm trying to make money as opposed to letting it go.....It's pretty scarce these days......
And I just found out that a Cargo Barrier is not so easy to fit when you have to drill 9mm & 11mm holes with blunt drill bits...
The back of the Fender is guttered and will not be on the road till the next weekend....Work takes priority....
By all means give them a call/drop in....I'm most certainly interested, but alas will not have time to drop in to see them myself......If you are hesitant by all means let me know and I'll follow it through......cheers...

Quick and a bit nasty looking, but if you put in a little more time than I did you should be able to come up with something quite presentable for a heap less than $400.

    Defender rear headrests.

It is about the same price for a cargo barrier as the headrests. A bit of closed cell foam, backing board, and vinyl. You solve two worries with one payment. If you carry anything in the back, a barrier is a must anyway. This should be considered a safety issue, and I assumed that headrests were manditory for all new vehicles. This assumption was until I got the Defender. Once my son is out of the child seat, will make some headrests to mount on the cargo barrier like in the previous post.

Consider all around safety, Barrier with headrests!

I've already got a cargo barrier, but the space between the barrier & the rear seat is a bit wide (custom barrier).

I've also heard of people putting their closed cell sleeping rolls up as head rests on the cargo barrier, and then the mat's handy for a camping trip.

A adjustable / removable headrest that matches the car would look so much better, be easier to live with, and make the car easier to sell if you ever had to. So if you'd spend that money to try to expediate the future sale of a car, you may as well spend it now and enjoy the benefit.

Anyway, I'm hoping that if we get enough expressions of interest, we can negotiate a MUCH better price.

... I dunno. I kinda like the home-made headrest. When I first saw that photo of Bushies I printed it out and showed it to all the fellas in the office. If I was going to buy a second hand fender that is what would impress me!!!

After all.... isn't this sort of thing what owning a defender is all about....?!!

... As far as filling in the gap... I think Mudnut got the idea... bit of closed cell foam, backing board, and vinyl... make it fill whatever size you need.... it just has to be stable enough to stop a head flying backward.

If you made something up that was easily attached/removed I reckon it'd be the ****... you could just hook/unhook it to whatever position needed on the cargo barrier!

In fact, I will take up that challenge, doctor something up, then post the design and photos.

    ... Scott
