Thread: Discovery 1 V8 - Fitting New Speed Transducer

Hi All, I have a 97 Discovery 1 V8. I have been having the intermittent speedo problem. Starts ok and speedo works for a few kms and then twitches and dies. Sometimes it comes back. Have read some threads, seems it is most likely a worn out speed transducer. So I ordered the new part and have it ready to fit.

Today I removed the old transducer, the little spindle was very worn. Problem is I cant seem to fit the new transducer. How do you fit the transducer in that cramped space under a parked car. I have spent hours trying but no success. I assume I cant drive the car without the transducer because oil will leak from the transfer case !

Any tips appreciated.
