    Tdi Auto big vibration

Still looking at Tdi's to buy, test drove a auto 10/1998 model, today and as stated big vibration in the dash and the high/low gear stick mostly up to 60kms did get a bit better when it warmed up. If I pushed down hard on the top of the dash the rattle went away all most. How hard is it to take out the dash the part with the air vents in it and the temp controls and maybe stick something in there to stop some of the noise? And what would cause this vibration anyway?

    Hi
some of the tdi's can be realy harsh (i have one) and vibrate quite a deal.

the thing that worries me is this one vibrates up to 60k and then settles out....

sounds like it has low compression on one cylinder, or lazy injector or a torgue converter way out of balance.

mine vibrates but it is pretty consistent thru the whole rev range.

I picked up my 4/98 tdi auto today and it is smooth right up the rev range with just the tiniest vibe when pushed hard, maybe just engine/ gbox mounts need replaced ?

    Tdi Auto vibration

When I was looking at Tdi's 18mths ago, I tested a 96 Auto that was in OK condition. ($11K ). That vehicle was smooth up to 100K - no vibrations. Unless that vehicle is awfully cheap and you have the time to take the engine/gbox apart and rebuild it, I'd suggest you pick another
