    Question to those who know:
What is stopping the installation of a plug/socket in the wiring harness near where it exits the rocker cover, mounting it so that the wiring direction is shaped to go vertical, opening the isulation so that any internal seepage runs out, but the covering the wire in spiral wrap or split sleeve, in order to insulate it? This way there is no chance of the oil travelling back to the electronics.
OR IS THE PROBLEM THAT THE WIRING SUFFERS FROM TRACKING ACROSS THE FITTING IN THE GEAR INSIDE THE ROCKER COVER?
Is my possible cure too simplistic?

I had my harness replaced on my D2 TD5 after it got oil soaked.

The explanation that was given to me was that the oil enters the loom through microscopic cracks which develop in the insulation and is pushed through the lengh of the loom by capilliary action and pressure from the engine end of the loom, acting like weak hydraulics. Eventually this will force the oil to the end of the wire even if it means going up hill.
