    replacing LR stereo head unit

I haven't talked to any Stereo places yet, plan to tomorrow. I thought i would ask the question before i talk to them. When you replace the original LR head unit with something else can the steering wheel vol control etc be utilised with the new head unit???? SER II Disco

The reason i ask is that Strathfield has a special at the moment for a Sony single cd player/mp3/wma with 'aux in' on the front for 249 skins. I already have a 10 disc sony changer so would work out just nice.......

There was a previous thread for this in April but the question wasn't answered.

My knowledge is a few years old and technologies may have changed but, 5 years ago when I was into car stereo big time different branded stereo components could not interface with eachother i.e cd stacker and head unit.
However I don't believe you should have a problem considering all the steering wheel buttons are hard wired to the unit, just make sure the model you pick has the option available. In theory you shouldn't have a problem

I replaced my original LR unit with a Sony. Mine didn't have the steering wheel controls but I think if you invest the $20 at Autobarn and buy a eurovox - sony converter plug it will all work (mine did). Also means you don't need to cut any wires and the change over will only take you about 20 minutes!

Is it like mine? Good radio. Love the aux-in port.

    Sony stereo

Got my hands on a Strathfield dogologue, there is about three Sony models starting at $198 with a set of bonus 6" speakers through to the model i am looking at for $249. They all look roughly the same. Obviously different features

Will have a closer inspection tomorrow.

Yep - it has been great so far. Let down by the Land Rover speakers - but I have a set of Bose 1401's to go in that will clear that problem up. The radio has a volume KNOB, which I much prefer to those damn up/down volume buttons that you can never find at night bouncing around on a dirt road. The look is simple, yet elegant. I hate the garish stuff that is on the market these days - the fewer bright lights the better.

I think that it's a good front end for the money.
